I have a little something more to say about my article on Stark Reality.
Aboard the 171, this time in Bangalore, after two years of travelling by auto,I notice that there might be a simple solution to the tortures of 27D and 29C. Having money in my pocket, more than granting me the comfort of the auto, has rather spared me the slightest inclination to travel by bus. It just so happened, that since we had to traverse to the other side of the city and had time on our hands we decided to give Bangalore buses a shot.
Some things never change and a rainy day is the best time to enforce that. The murkiness, the pungent smell,water dripping down the window panes (oh yes, Bangalore buses have windows!), people in your face, students infested at the back of the bus, music blaring out of their cellphone and irate elder people. One thing that is different though, is that the women occupy the front and the men, the back.
Why can't Chennai adopt the same policy? Ignorance? The state unwilling to change something that's been around forever now? One small change, one giant giant leap for womankind. So, how do we do it?
Oh, and about the giving buses a shot part, we got down after the claustrophobia finally sunk in.

you know even in coimbatore the buses have women in fron and men at the back..and in chennai only the green ones do the left right thing i think ..the blue and white ones do front-back..but honesly its just such a simple solution no..
Well, doesn't make sense at all..! R u sayin woman r weaker and hence they need seats reserved for them, though the chennai buses ve the left.. And after having these seats reserved there are women who sit on the rht side and block more seats in an empty bus.. Mumbai which has one of the best public transport services, not in terms of revenue but services, has only 2 seats reserved one for a physically challenged and the other for an expecting woman..!
ha ha...well the problem is, if every woman could give a man a good punching in his face, then that would just be great, but that doesn't happen right. And I'm sure you really wouldn't know if a woman was going though torture in a public bus in Delhi, probably because you're not the one who is being subject to it all. I can tell you one thing, most women just face the humiliation, and the crap they are given in the bus without saying a word. That is the truth, and hence yes, they are weaker. We're talking about girls who get off Queen Mary's and get in to the bus. And if it means accepting that they are weak, in order for them have a reserved front of a bus space, then so be it !
to aashim: you sound like u didnt get that she was referring to women getting felt up in public transport..its not abt the weak and the strong, its abt the horny and the victims..
Gosh! I love how u insilut busses! The school busses in america are pretty much the same: people yelling, screamings, texting, using cell phones, singing, betting, trading useless posseions, snacking on potato chips, SPILLING the potato chips...ultimately giving the bus driver a headache!! My favorite wasy to travel is by my dad's BMW!!
